The Story
Sometime in the near future a group of young scientist enter a space ship that will take them to a black hole in the center of the Milky Way Galaxy. As you can see the navigator is using the latest GPS for guidance — which uses the Yellow Brick Road as the shortest distance to the black hole. But, as you can see, there is a problem — once on the road, you cannot make a right or left turn and you cannot go back!!!
Help, help!!! Wizard - help us!!!
Two interesting “behind the scenes” points about this piece. At one point, the name of this piece was “No U Turn”. As the piece unfolded Ted probably added the yellow road in the middle which changed the name of the piece.
This piece came about in a most unusual way. This was one of Ted’s later pieces. At the time he felt in a bit of a creativity drought. One of his son’s friends was visiting with his 3 children. They asked for a tour of Ted’s art and were fully engaged by it. Since they were so engaged, when they were leaving, Ted said he would create a box around an object they suggest. He asked all 3 kids for a suggestion. The youngest child, about 10 years old, suggested a steering wheel, which led to the creation of this box.
